The winery is owned by the Eugnio de Almeida Foundation, a privately funded charity established in 1963. Named after the Cartuxa Monastery, the wine honours the Carthusian monks who lived in the region from 1598. Cartuxa Colheita Tinto is a blend of Alicante Bouschet,
